Lowdham Young Farmers mark ‘triumphant’ year

A successful time at the Newark Show for Lowdham Young Farmers

Over 100 members of Lowdham Young Farmers past and present joined together for their annual dinner dance at the Saracens Head, Southwell, to celebrate another successful year. Lowdham had several highlights in the YFC year including Jo Turvey winning the ‘members’ member trophy, and the club winning the ten pin bowling and the tug-of-war competitions.

Members were also proud to be part of the triumphant Notts YFC team at the East Midlands Area competitions weekend in Skegness. Lowdham members excelled at this year’s Newark and Notts County Show – Young Farmers entered several exhibits and took part in horse, beef, dairy and lamb stock-judging. Lowdham finished third in the club of the year, and members were also successful in the individual stock-judging competitions. Rebecca Chadwick won the junior horse judging, James Bust won senior dairy judging, and James Ashworth took home two trophies winning intermediate dairy and butchers lamb judging.

The year was rounded off with the annual County Rally held at Worksop – members competed in fun activities including beat the goalie, girls shaving boy’s faces, sumo wrestling, and the infamous water race. Members were also involved in the Notts YFC junior camp held in Walesby. They took part in several activities including rafting, archery, football, rounders, camp fires and an action-packed obstacle course.

Lowdham YFC also held several events to raise money for Help 4 Heroes– the total raised was £600, a huge achievement for the club. Outgoing chairman Jack Tooley comments on the achievements of the year: “It has been a fantastic year for the members and I’m very proud of everyone who has contributed to the club’s success. Young Farmers is a brilliant youth organisation and allows so many individuals to develop their personal and social skills”.

Lowdham is one of 11 clubs in the county and, after a successful year for Notts YFC, clubs are always on the lookout for new members. Anyone wishing to join Young Farmers should contact Lauren Clark 01636 672633 or email lauren@nottsyfc.co.uk
