The bridge carrying the footpath over Lambley Dumbles has been closed for urgent repair work. The emergency closure by Nottinghamshire County Council dated 1 July 2010 states that the council is exercising its powers to close the public right of way on Lambley Footpath No 21, from 1 July to 21 July 2010 “to enable the bridge to be strucutally assessed and essential repairs to be carried out“.
The bridge is a narrow timber structure spanning the Bottom Dumble in Lambley. As can be seen in our pictures, one of the three deck timbers has broken and some other structural elements appear weakened. Of more serious concern are the foundations, which may have shifted or been undermined by recent flooding of the stream.
The bridge forms an important link in the footpath network around Lambley, connecting the Top Dumbles and the two Bottom Dumbles trails. Walkers will have to detour eastwards and cross the stream by the Woodlark Pub, which is about 300m from the bridge.
The footpath is closed between grid reference points SK 6263 4573 and SK 6262 4567.
