It is becoming something of a tradition for Lambley’s village fete to encounter blustery weather, and the 2010 event proved no exception. This year’s fair saw winds that were strong enough to keep the birds on the ground, but weak enough to allow the beer tent to keep its roof. One casualty of the weather was the giant slide, which could not be erected safely.
Despite the weather and the competing atttraction of the Wimbledon final, the fete on 4 July 2010 saw good attendance and reported an increased surplus for Lambley school PTA funds. Trade in the beer tent and at the barbecue was reportedly ‘brisk’, while games and craft stalls were also kept busy.
PTA organisers expressed disappointment that local radio station Heart FM was unable to attend, as it has in previous years, but hopes to see the distinctive red and white vans and deck chairs returning next year. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue brought a fire engine and distributed safety packs, while the bouncy castle and gladiators arena had a steady stream of customers.
The organisers reported a surplus of over £600 from the afternoon’s activities, which will go towards Lambley Primary School PTA funds.
