Fund-raising activities centred on the Nag’s Head pub in Woodborough over the last year, in aid of the cancer care charity Maggie’s, generated a total of £7,787.94 it was announced this week. Pub quizmaster and fundraising organiser Brian Hallam provided the figures as the year’s events reached their climax on Tuesday. A generous donation from Notts County FC owner Ray Trew boosted the total to an even £8,000.
Trew was in Woodborough to present the symbolic cheque to local Maggie’s organiser Sarah Macey. Thanking the assembled crown after the regular Tuesday quiz, Macey said: “This really means a lot to us and will help build the new Maggie’s cancer care centre at Nottingham City Hospital. The good news is that we should be on site next month for groundbreaking, and the centre should be open in 2011.”
The Nag’s Head has selected a charity each year since 1993. This year’s total has easily surpassed previous efforts, and has raised the grand total donated to well over £50,000. The charity chosen for fund-raising in the coming year will be announced shortly.
