Dates have been announced for the 2011 run of the Calverton Plough Play, at various venues in local villages including Lambley, Lowdham, and Woodborough. The Plough Play is a short and lighthearted performance held in public houses, and is performed by the Calverton Real Ale and Plough Play Preservation Society (Crapps).
The play will be performed at a total of 19 venues on Thursday 13, Friday 14, and Saturday 15 January 2011, as far afield as Southwell, Oxton, Bleasby, Farnsfield, and of course Calverton. There are two opportunities to experience the production in Woodborough on Friday 14 Jan: at the Nag’s Head at 10.25pm, and at the Four Bells at 10.45.
Lowdham has four shows on Saturday 15 Jan: Springfield at 7.50pm, World’s End 8.25pm, Volunteer 8.50pm, and the Ship Inn at 9.20pm. The single performance in Lambley will be at the Woodlark at 9.50pm on Saturday.
The Calverton Plough Play is a type of Mummers play, an English folk tradition dating back centuries. The tradition was resurrected locally in 1978 and has since raised over £30,000 for the players’ chosen charity, Nottinghamshire NSPCC.

Hi – many thanks for placing Lambley, Lowdham and Woodborough on standby! Please be generous as we go round – we’d love to make this a record-breaking year of contributions to Nottinghamshire NSPCC.
All the best,
Calverton Plough Boys
Sounds, great. As a new resident in Lambley I will look forward to it!
