LAMBLEY Historical Society is working with the Media Archive for Central England (Mace) to secrure the heritage value of home movies and videos from the local area. Mace is the screen archive for the Midlands, and is part of a network of public moving image archives that collectively preserve the UK’s moving image heritage.
Material archived at Mace has enormous potential for future generations to enjoy and study. The organisation is therefore keen to find films and videos that show the region or things happening in it. They want to reflect how people lead their lives, so material about any aspect of work or industry is important – as are home movies, on either film or video.
Amateur material is just as valid for inclusion in the collection as professional productions. The film or video format and the date they were produced does not affect the decision to acquire collections, as their primary focus is the moving images themselves. More details are available on http://www.macearchive.org/
Your film wanted!
To assist with collection of any footage from around our area, Lambley Historical Society is holding an event in Lambley Village Hall on Saturday 8 October 2011. A representative from Mace will be speaking about the project and some archive film will be shown. There should also be some footage from this year’s Cowslip Sunday event available to view.
Please bring along any footage of local interest (ie Midlands area). This can be on any format – cine, video, DVD, Hi-8, JVC etc. If they are suitable and relevant, Mace will make a copy on DVD and return this to the owner. The original will go into the Mace Archive.
Please contact either John Smith (931 3066) or Kay Winfield (931 3646) for further details.
Programme for the day:
12.00: noon doors open. Kay Ogilvie from Mace will be on hand to talk to anyone who has film footage that could be suitable for the archive.
2.00pm: Mace Film Presentation. Talk by Kay Ogilvie from Mace and film presentation showing a local area event
3.00pm: Lambley in Focus update. Your memories of Lambley, a slide show presented by John Smith, Chair of Lambley Historical Society – your input welcome.
