AS PART of their preparations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June, Craig and Gaynor Smith from the Four Bells Inn, Woodborough, enlisted the help of Woodborough Woods school by asking the children to design a new logo for the event.
The winner has just been announced: Ally Sloan, aged 9, created this impressive bit of graphic design by ripping pieces of coloured card to make the flag, then drawing the crown – studded with diamonds of course – in the centre.
“What we liked about the image was the creativity that went in” said Craig Smith. Ally wins a £30 Waterstones voucher and the prestige of having her design used throughout the Four Bells jubilee celebrations.

The Four Bells will be hosting its jubilee event throughout the day on Monday 4 June 2012, with live music, hog roast, children’s games, and local stalls and crafts. The Millennium Beacon on Governor’s Field will be lit at 10.00pm.
- In other jubilee news, dumbles.co.uk understands that Lambley has been selected as one of the sites for official jubilee beacons to mark the monarch’s 60 years on the throne. Further details are expected soon: Buckingham Palace had initially planned to sanction only 2,012 beacons throughout the country, but latest reports suggest that a larger number will actually be lit. The location of Lambley’s beacon has not yet been decided.
