THE ANNUAL Lowdham Summer Show will be held on bank holiday Monday, 27 August 2012, with a full range of competitions and other activities. The event promises something for everyone in the family, from the very youngest to the oldest.
Carlton Brass will be playing on several occasions during the afternoon, and other entertainments include the ever-popular Punch and Judy, acrobats, and a duck race.
Along with the competitions organised by Lowdham Horticultural Society for its prestigious LHS Tray and LHS Vase classes, the photographic and handicraft classes will attract much attention.
This year’s topics for the photography classes are sport, fetes and galas, flowers, and rivers.
As usual there are two sizes (under 9in and over 9in). This year the organisers will not accept mounted photographs, and encourage as many people as possible to bring along their favourite pictures.
The handicraft class remains an important part of the show. This is to be split into two distinct groups – textiles and non-textiles. This is a chance to show the community all the wonderful items that have made locally and celebrate the creativity of those in the area.
Organisers point out that the show is for everyone, young and old, amateurs enthusiasts and experts. They hope many people will enter as many classes as they can, and come along to see the exhibits and experience the atmosphere of this village event.
They have also issued an appeal for helpers, for setting up the marquee on the Sunday afternoon the day before the show and on the day itself. If you would like to help and can spare some time, even if it is the odd hour to collect money on the gates, please telephone show manager Steve Aram on 0115 966 3772, or show secretary Janet Powell-Perry on 0115 966 9467
Show schedules will be available in Lowdham village soon. The Lowdham Summer Show 2012 is open 1pm-4.30pm on Monday 27 August, entry is £2 (children free)
The show schedule is now available online via the Lowdham Horticultural Society’s website, as well as a more detailed timetable of events. Click here for the Annual Show page.
