AFTER winning its category of best kept mid-sized village for the last three years, Woodborough has this year scored the top prize in the annual Nottinghamshire Best Kept Village competition.
Woodborough has won the category B award, for villages with a population between 700 and 2000, six times this century, including the 2010, 2011, and 2012 titles. Now it adds to this with the overall county title, beating villages both larger and smaller.
The prize for this achievement is £1000, awarded to Woodborough Parish Council.
Radcliffe-on-Trent won this year’s large village category, with Southwell runner-up, while Orston was judged best kept small village with Hallam runner-up. Shireoaks was runner-up in Woodborough’s category.
Members of Woodborough Community Association attended the Nottinghamshire Association of Local Councils AGM last month where they were presented with the Fenwick Award for winning their sector three years in a row. It was then announced that the village had been judged as Best in Nottinghamshire after all four sector winners were re-inspected in August (the fourth award was to Brinsley as best newcomer).
Woodborough also claimed this top accolade in 2000. As a result of winning three consecutive category titles, the village will not be allowed to enter the competition for the next two years.
