THE opening event of the 2017 Lowdham Book Festival takes place this afternoon (Friday 16 June) with a free classical music concert at Southwell Minster, led by Dave Machell. More music follows this evening with the Daniel Smith Blues Band at Lowdham Village Hall from 8pm.
Events of a more literary nature start on Saturday 17 June 2017, including an evening with former Home Secretary Alan Johnson. He will be discussing the third volume of his memoirs, The Long and Winding Road, with BBC Radio Nottingham’s John Holmes, in the village hall from 8pm.The organisers report that there are just a handful of tickets (£8/£7) remaining for this event.
The festival continues throughout the week, culminating in the main book fair on Saturday 24 June. On this day events are clustered around the village hall, and are free to attend. Book fair events include author readings and book signings, publishers and booksellers with new and second hand books, and a variety of other attractions with a literary element.
