Woodborough was named Best Kept Village of 700-2000 population in 2010
HAVING ENJOYED success in last year’s Best Kept Village award, Woodborough has set its sights on even greater glory in 2011. The organising committee has the ambition of winning the ‘Best in Notts’ category in addition to the category award for best village of its size.
The first round of judging takes place sometime between 6 and 24 June, with the judges looking at four aspects of the village to allocate a maximum of 100 points:
- Domestic properties (30pts), looking at houses, gardens, hedges, and frontages
- Community facilities (40pts) bus shelters, playing fields, village hall, churches, school
- Commercial enterprises (25pts) pubs, shop, garage, garden centres
- Obvious community effort (5pts)
To show the village to its best during the judging period, people are being encouraged to keep both their own properties and communal areas as tidy as possible. Offers of help are being gratefully received, and suggestions of areas needing attention can be made either to the hotline (below) or to the suggestion box in Woodborough News. Those having difficulty keeping their own patch tidy may ask for help from Woodborough’s army of ‘garden ninjas’.
