FOR the past two years, The Woodman has collected and recycled christmas trees around Ravenshead and surrounding villages. The trees are made into garden chippings and donated to local allotments, homes and community projects. This is done for a donation of £3 to help cover fuel cost and machine hire.
The scheme returns this year, but with a difference as the organisers have been contacted by a charity which provides holidays for terminally Ill children. The charity is currently raising funds for a child in the Mansfield area and all profits from the Christmas tree collection will be donated to help with this appeal.
The Woodman is a small, local business, installing wood-burning stoves and providing logs and winter fuel. Trees will be collected by advance bookings only as a route has to be planned and manpower is limited. The trees will be collected the weekend leading up to the Twelfth night (3-4 January 2015) on a route passing through Ravenshead, Blidworth and Harlow Wood on Saturday 3 January before moving across Mansfield and surrounding areas. On Sunday 4 January the Southwell villages will be covered. You don’t have to be at home, you can leave your tree on your garden and arrange payment when you to book your collection.
If you would like to save yourself the trouble if making a mess in your car, know that your tree is being put to an environmentally friendly use and that a charity will be benefitting from the scheme then do get in touch.
