FURTHER to a story published on dumbles.co.uk last week, we’ve had news that the Christmas tree recycling initiative has been a success. Eve Morley of The Woodman writes:

“Well, after three days of blood, sweat and thankfully no tears, our Christmas tree charity marathon has finished. We covered over 150 miles and have had the best response yet this year.

We have raised the total of £338 by collecting the trees. We had as many people in Southwell alone as we did in the whole of the Mansfield area on the previous day.

People’s generosity has been astounding. Many people donated more than the required £3, and some a great deal more. We are extremely grateful for your donations and know that they will make a huge difference to a family that will gain such a wonderful experience from the charity.

Trewan Sands Children’s Trust does a fantastic job of providing ‘memories to cherish’ for the families it supports. It helps provide special care and specially-adapted holidays for terminally ill and severely disabled children. Our donation will go towards helping a Mansfield child have a holiday on a skippered, specially adapted narrow boat on the Lancaster canal.

In the meantime, your trees are now shredded (despite the machine breaking down on day two!) and are nourishing the earth that grew them. We would like to say a huge thank you to our volunteers and to Brett Bramwell of County Arboriculture for the load of the shredder.”
