Lambley-based photographer Sarah Wilkes has reached the final of the prestigious Guild of Photographers Image of the Year competition.
Her picture is one of just ten images selected from the guild’s monthly photographic competitions. Over the course of 2015, almost 10,000 images were entered in the competition’s four categories, meaning that Sarah Wilkes’s picture is literally one in a thousand.
Guild director Lesley Thirsk said: “To have an image recognised in the monthly competition is difficult enough, so to have one selected as one of the best is a quite remarkable achievement and shows just how talented a photographer Sarah is.”
Sarah Wilkes’s studio is located within the Floralands garden centre on Catfoot Lane, where she specialises in ‘fine art’ portraiture of children and newborns.
She said: “It’s such an honour – photography is my passion and I am delighted that my work has been recognised. Knowing just how high the standards are, to have one of my images selected to go to the final is really exciting. I couldn’t believe it when I found out.”
The results of the final will be announced on Saturday 6 February 2016.
