GEDLING BOROUGH Council has confirmed that its summer sports scheme for children in Lambley and Woodborough will go ahead again this year.
The future of these free activities had been in doubt due to the budget cuts that are affecting many pubic services, but dumbles.co.uk has been told that the events have now been approved after “positive feedback from parents”.
The sports sessions will be held at Woodborough Woods School each Thursday morning in August 2011 (Thurs 4 August, 11 August, 18 August, and 25 August). Sessions will last two hours, starting at 10.00am and finishing at 12.00 noon. They will be free to attend for Lambley and Woodborough children aged 5-11.
Booking is required: telephone 0115 901 3714
Participants should bring typical sports wear – training shows, wet weather clothing, shinpads, etc, and provide their own snacks and drinks.
Full details of this and a range of other sumer activities can be found in the Gedling Leisure holiday activity programme (PDF, 11.5Mb!)
Meanwhile, children in Lowdham may get some coached training on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the holidays, at the Multi-Use Games Area on Southwell Road. The Sports Development Unit and Lowdham Parish Council are working to provide qualified coaches in mini football (unfortunately called ‘soccer’ in the publicity material), quick cricket, olympic challenges, and other sports. Sessions will cost £2.50 each or £4.00 per week, further details from Sports Development on telephone 01636 655715 or email james.wheat@nsdc.info
