THE WOODBOROUGH Spring Show was well represented with a fine variety of exhibits and stalls, reports Woodborough Horticultural Society. Although the total of entries was lower than the previous year, it was really encouraging to see that the quality of those exhibits was maintained.
Many congratulations to the trophy winners: Lyndon Clements, Margaret Allsopp, Jill Hicking, Pat Robinson, Jill Brown, Inga Filmer, and Joan Marshall. The Young Persons classes were won by Ally Sloan and Sam Sloan. The ‘Special’ classes for daffodils and hyacinths were won by Jill Hicking and Stella Bush. The society extends its thanks to all exhibitors, committee, and friends for making the show a success.
The society hopes to encourage more entries for next year. Many people have daffodils and other flowers in their gardens, and that’s all that is needed to enter, perhaps to win a prize or trophy. Entries are open to members and non-members alike, and the atmosphere is friendly.
Woodborough Horticultural Society’s next meeting is on Tuesday 8 May in the village hall at 7.30pm. This is the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday. Both members and non-members are welcome to listen to Michael Fisher speak about ‘Plants for dry shade’. There will be plants for sale as well as the usual raffle and refreshments. Non-members pay £1 on the door.
On Monday 18 June, WHS is arranging an evening visit to Stuart Dixon’s garden at Stoke Bardolph. Details will be issued to members in due course.
Finally, here’s one for summer photographers: the photograph category for the WHS Autumn Show (8 September 2012) will be on the theme ‘Celebration’.
