Scarecrows to march on Lowdham

SCARECROWS will be popping up across Lowdham in the next couple of weeks, as part of the village’s celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the village hall. Residents, businesses, and groups are being encouraged to create and display scarecrows of all shapes and sizes, to create a ‘scarecrow trail’ for people to follow on the May Day bank holiday, Monday 2 May 2011.

This piratical fellow adorned the Nags Head Woodborough as part of that village's scarecrow festival in 2010 - now Lowdham is launching its own scarecrow trail on the May Day holiday 2011

The best scarecrow, as judged by the competition organisers, will appear on the front cover of the June edition of Lowdham’s parish magazine, and the top three entries will be awarded vouchers from The Bookcase – £15 for the winner, £10 for second, and £5 for third.

To be included in the scarecrow trail and qualify for prize judging, entrants need to complete an entry form and return it by Friday 22 April 2011 to Nicola Macdonald, 6 Ton Lane, Lowdham. An entry form can be downloaded here (24kb PDF), or obtained from Nicola on 966 5201, na246@btinternet.com

Scarecrows need to be displayed for judging on Sunday 1 May, and be on show for public viewing on Monday 2 May. They can be displayed in front gardens, windows, or close to premises and there is really no limit on the creativity that can be used. Go on, amaze the judges!
