Woodborough charity drive raises thousands

DURING the last 12 months, the Nag’s Head in Woodborough has been the focus of fund raising activities for the charity When You Wish Upon A Star, which treats children who are extremely sick or terminally ill to once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The target for the year was an ambitious £10,000, which would be enough to send 14 children, along with their carers, to Lapland at Christmas.

A year of hard work included raffles, weekly quizzes, a coffee morning, and various sponsored events, and funds were boosted by generous donations. With a fortnight to go the team felt it was struggling, still some £500 short of target, but a final effort saw them pass the ten grand mark with some to spare. In fact the grand total raised was £10,086.45.

The team wish to express their thanks to everyone from far and wide who supported this venture, and helped them to achieve the target.

For the months of November and December, focus shifts to an attempt to raise £2000 to purchase a defibrillator to be located in Woodborough, and all help, financial and otherwise, would be very much appreciated. There is a weekly quiz, and a ‘Play your cards right’ every Tuesday evening in the Nag’s Head, and there will be a Grand Christmas Draw in December. Further details from the pub.
